Central Police Department

Louisiana State Police crash reports service

The Central Police Department is at 1330 Hooper Road, Central, LA 70818. Both the main line and non-emergency number are (225) 262-2021. The department website is at central-la.gov. Central incorporated as a city in 2005, and the Central PD was established soon after to serve city residents. Before incorporation, the area was served solely by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office.

Records requests at Central PD can be made in person at the department or by submitting a written request by mail. When you request a record, include the type of report you need, the date and location of the incident, and any case number if available. Bring valid photo ID when visiting in person. Fees may apply; call the department before visiting to confirm current charges and expected processing times.

Central PD handles records only for incidents inside the city limits of Central. For incidents in EBR Parish areas outside Central city limits, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office would have the record instead.

East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office serves unincorporated areas of EBR Parish, including parts of the broader Central area that may fall outside city limits. The EBRSO main office is at 8900 Jimmy Wedell Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70807. The phone is (225) 389-5000, and the website is at ebrso.org. The Criminal Records Division charges $7.50 per report. Written requests can be mailed to P.O. Box 3277, Baton Rouge, LA 70821. If you are not sure whether Central PD or EBRSO handled a particular incident, call both agencies to check.

Louisiana Public Records Law

Under La. R.S. 44:1, the public has a right to inspect and copy government records including police records, within three business days of a request. Central PD must respond in that window and must provide a written explanation, citing the relevant exemption under La. R.S. 44:3, if they deny a request. Common exemptions include active investigations, juvenile records, sexual offense reports, and records that could compromise an undercover operation. For resolved cases with no ongoing investigation, most incident and arrest records are accessible.

Criminal History Records

Louisiana does not make full criminal history records public. Under La. R.S. 15:587, access to the state criminal history system is restricted. Central PD cannot provide a full background check report on an individual to a private requester. That information is held by the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information. To request your own criminal history, contact LSP BCII at 7919 Independence Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70806. Phone: (225) 925-6095. Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cost: $36. The right to review your own file is at La. R.S. 15:588. See lsp.org/services/background-checks.

Crash Reports

Crash reports for accidents in Central are part of the Louisiana State Police statewide crash report system. Online copies cost $11.50 and become available after a 15-day waiting period. Fatal crashes require in-person request after 60 days and are not online. Search at lsp.org/services/crash-reports using the report number or driver name, date, and street. More on the traffic records process is at lsp.org.

Fingerprinting and Background Check Submissions

If you need fingerprints for a background check submission, licensing application, or other official purpose, the Louisiana State Police offers fingerprinting services. Details on the fingerprinting process are at lsp.org. The LSP BCII office in Baton Rouge is the main location for fingerprint submissions tied to state background checks. Central residents can also check with EBR Parish or Baton Rouge city agencies for locally-available fingerprinting services.
