Accident Reports

Crash reports from Shreveport are available in person at SPD headquarters or online through LexisNexis. Before you show up in person, allow at least 48 hours after the accident for the report to be processed and filed. The in-person fee is $10 per accident report. Payment must be collected before the report is released, in line with Shreveport City Code Division 2, Services, Section 26-106.

To get a crash report online, go to policereports.lexisnexis.com and search by report number, or by the last name of a driver plus the date and street name where the crash occurred. The online system gives you fast access without having to drive to the police station, which is handy if the report is for an out-of-state insurance claim or a legal matter with tight deadlines.

Offense and Incident Reports

Offense and incident reports from SPD are available for a fee. The first two pages of an offense or incident report cost $6. Each additional page after the first two costs $2. Witness statements and supplemental reports are $2 per page. Fees must be paid before records are released. These charges apply across the board, and the department does not waive fees except where required by law.

Under La. R.S. 44:1, public records must be made available in a reasonable time. For records tied to active investigations or matters that could compromise a case, exemptions under La. R.S. 44:3 may apply. SPD will not release records from open investigations, and records involving minor victims or sexual offenses are restricted regardless of case status.

Clearance Checks

Background checks through SPD are restricted. The department only provides full background checks to military recruiters, government agencies, and businesses that have a signed User's Agreement Contract with SPD. Individual citizens cannot get a full background check through the Shreveport Police Department.

Instead, individual residents can request a Clearance Check. A Clearance Check confirms whether a person has never been arrested in Shreveport. If the person was arrested, the check will note that, and you can then request a copy of the Courts Minutes for that case as a separate step. This is a more limited document than a full criminal history report, and it only covers Shreveport arrests. Louisiana state criminal history records remain restricted under La. R.S. 15:587. For a complete background check on yourself, contact the Louisiana State Police BCII at (225) 925-6095.

Fingerprinting Services

SPD offers fingerprinting at the ABO office inside the police facility at 1234 Texas Avenue. The entrance to the fingerprinting office is at the north corner of the building, in Room 64. The fee for fingerprinting is $20. This service is used for background check submissions, professional licensing, and other purposes that require ink or electronic fingerprints. If you need fingerprints for a federal background check or LSP submission, call ahead to confirm availability and current hours before you go.

Shreveport City Court Records

The Shreveport City Court clerk is currently Mr. Bill Whiteside, Interim Clerk of Court. The City Court is at 1244 Texas Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71101. The clerk's office phone is (318) 673-5820, and the fax is (318) 673-5813. To schedule a court date, call (318) 673-5830. City court records include misdemeanor cases, traffic violations, and small civil matters handled at the municipal level. These are separate from district court records held at the Caddo Parish Courthouse.

State-Level Criminal History

For a full criminal history record, individuals must go through the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information. The BCII office is at 7919 Independence Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70806. The phone is (225) 925-6095. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost is $36 total. Under La. R.S. 15:588, you can review and dispute your own record. More details are at lsp.org/services/background-checks.
