Calcasieu Parish Police Records Quick Facts
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office Records Division
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office sits at 5400 East Broad Street in Lake Charles. The Records Division is the main point of contact for requests involving incident reports, arrest logs, and traffic reports tied to sheriff's office activity. Staff are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The main line is (337) 491-3700, and you can find more information at calcasieusheriff.com.
You can submit a request in person at the Records Division, or you may mail a written request. Either way, you need to include several pieces of information: the full name of the person the record is about, their date of birth or approximate age, the specific date range you want searched, and your own contact information. This makes it easier for staff to locate the right records and follow up if anything is unclear. Processing takes roughly 3 to 5 business days depending on how complex the search is.

Free Access and Online Tools
The Sheriff's Office offers several ways to look up information at no cost. The online inmate lookup tool is updated regularly and lets you search the current jail population at the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. If you need to review documents in person rather than get copies, you may do so at the Sheriff's Office at no charge. That is an option many people overlook but it can save money when you just need to verify a few facts.
Public access terminals are also available at the Calcasieu Parish Courthouse, 1000 Ryan Street, which is separate from the Sheriff's complex. Daily arrest reports are open for public review as well. These tools don't replace a formal records request but they can tell you a lot before you decide to pay for copies.
The Correctional Center itself is located at 5410 East Broad Street, just next to the main Sheriff's complex. Phone: (337) 491-3800.

The DA is at 901 Lakeshore Drive, Suite 800, Lake Charles, LA 70601. You can email requests to publicrecords@cpdao.org. The phone number is (337) 437-3064.
Fees at the DA's office are set separately from the Sheriff's Office. Copies run $1.00 per page. Video records cost $15.00 for the first disc and $10.00 for each one after that. The office responds within five business days. Payment must be by money order or law firm check. If payment is not received within 30 days of the cost notice, the request is closed and you would need to start over.
Clerk of Court and Court Records

The Clerk's office is at 1000 Ryan Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601, phone (337) 437-3550. The 14th Judicial District Court is at 1001 Lakeshore Drive, Lake Charles, LA 70601, phone (337) 437-3400.
The Clerk maintains case filings, judgments, and dockets for criminal and civil proceedings. You can often review these records in person at the courthouse. Court records are a useful complement to police records because they show what happened after an arrest, including charges filed, plea information, and case outcomes.
Police Jury Records Department
The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury handles public records for parish government functions outside of law enforcement. If you need records related to parish ordinances, meetings, permits, or other administrative matters, the Police Jury Records Department is the place to contact. Mailing address: Post Office Drawer 3287, Lake Charles, LA 70602. Phone: (337) 721-3517. Fax: (337) 437-3399. You may also email jwallace@calcasieu.gov. Online requests are available through the Police Jury's website.
Louisiana Public Records Law
All of these requests are governed by the Louisiana Public Records Act. Under La. R.S. 44:1, any person 18 or older can inspect or copy public records held by a government body. Agencies have three business days to respond to a request. If they deny access, they must do so in writing and cite the specific law that lets them withhold the record.
Several types of records are shielded from public release under La. R.S. 44:3. These include records tied to open investigations, records that could expose undercover officers or informants, and records involving juveniles. In practice this means incident reports for active cases may not be available until the investigation closes or charges are formally filed.
Statewide Criminal History Records
Louisiana keeps criminal history records in a closed system. Under La. R.S. 15:587, this data is not open to the general public. Only authorized agencies, such as law enforcement and the courts, can pull full criminal history. The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information, also called BCII-LCJIS, is the central repository. It is located at 7919 Independence Blvd in Baton Rouge and can be reached at (225) 925-6095.
If you need a background check for a lawful purpose, the fee through LSP is $31 plus a $5 technology fee, totaling $36. If you are requesting your own record, that is called a Right to Review and is permitted under La. R.S. 15:588. You will need to be fingerprinted. The LAPS/IdentoGO network has more than 100 sites across Louisiana. Full information is at lsp.org/services/background-checks/.

The cost is $11.50 plus applicable fees. You must wait 15 working days after the date of the crash before making a request. Fatal crash reports have a 60-day wait and must be picked up in person at a State Police Troop office. See lsp.org/services/crash-reports/ for details.
